BADIN COAL FIELD

Distance from Karachi :   165 km

Identified Area :               - sq. km
Coal Reserves:                  1.358 Billion Metric Tons

The Khore Wah drilling project was an extension of Coal Resources Exploration and Assessment Programme abbreviated as (COALREAP). This investigation was under taken to prove the existence of coal beds already encountered in Khore Wah Gas Well No. 1 of Union Texas Petroleum, now the name of which has been changed as British Petroleum. One drill hole was drilled at near Khore Wah Gas Well No. 1 in 1992, where two coal beds having thickness of 0.2 m and 0.35 were encountered at depths of 78.18 and 80.42 m respectively.

The Geological Survey of Pakistan and United States Geological Survey decided to drill another borehole close to Khore Wah Gas Well No.1 of Union Texas. The second bore hole No.KHW-2 was drilled at distance of about 200 meter north east of Gas Well. Two coal beds of 0.95 m and 0.30 m were encountered at depths of 120.90 and 124.26 m respectively. The third borehole near Bano village was drilled on the recommendation of John San Fillipo of USGS to fill up the gap, to determine the extension of coal beds of Sonda West Coal field and to establish stratigraphic correlation. Six coal beds were encountered having thickness of 0.17-0.46 m at the depth from 101-137 m.
